The Indian government has recently announced plans to integrate an additional 28 wholesale mandis, or market yards, with the eNAM online trading platform, as reported in the Agrowon ePaper today in Marathi. This integration aims to further strengthen the agricultural sector by connecting a total of 1,389 mandis with the platform. Manoj Ahuja, the Agriculture Secretary, emphasized the significance of providing crucial information to stakeholders through the Agriculture Department to address information asymmetry. He also underlined the importance of enhancing the efficiency of the agricultural value chain and minimizing wastage.

In line with these efforts, the government is preparing to launch eNAM 2.0, an advanced version of the online platform. The success of this upgraded platform will depend on implementing necessary reforms in the state acts governing agriculture. Presently, the electronic National Agriculture Market (eNAM), launched on April 26th, has successfully connected 1,361 regulated mandis across 23 states and four Union Territories, as highlighted in the Agrowon ePaper.

During a workshop focused on eNAM 2.0, Manoj Ahuja stated, "To further strengthen e-NAM, 28 new mandis have recently been approved for integration, bringing the total count to 1,389." He emphasized the importance of delivering crucial information to e-NAM stakeholders, including farmers, traders, and buyers, in a timely manner to eliminate disparities in information. The Agriculture Secretary also stressed that providing information about the quality of agricultural produce is equally vital for buyers as knowing commodity prices is for sellers. Additionally, he highlighted the economic perspective of enhancing the efficiency of the entire agricultural value chain and reducing wastage.
